Historicalevolution
InNovember1952,theCentralPeople’sGovernmentAdministrationCouncilapprovedtheestablishmentofBeijingPetroleumInstitute.
In1953,inordertosupporttheeconomicconstructionanddevelopmentofthepetroleumindustryinNewChina,basedontheDepartmentofPetroleumandChemicalEngineeringofTsinghuaUniversity,itbroughttogetherthepetroleumandpetrochemicaldepartmentsofPekingUniversity,TianjinUniversityandotheruniversities.NewChinaThefirstpetroleuminstitutionofhigherlearning-BeijingPetroleumInstitutewasformallyestablished,whichwasthepredecessorofChinaUniversityofPetroleum.
In1960,itrankedamongthe64"NationalKeyUniversities"establishedbytheStateCouncil.
DuetotheimpactoftheCulturalRevolution,theschoolmovedtoDongying,Shandongin1969andwasrenamedEastChinaPetroleumInstitute.Therelocationcausedhugelossestotheschool’spersonnelandproperty.Atthattime,alltheschoolbuildingsconsistedofonly40,000squaremetersof"drybase"soilhouses,withoutlaboratories,libraries,andsportsfields.Facingdifficulties,teachersandstudentsreliedontheirowneffortsandworkedhardtobuildtheirschoolsonthesalt-alkaliland.
InJune1981,theGraduateSchoolwasestablishedontheoriginalsiteofBeijingPetroleumInstitute.
In1988,itwasrenamed"UniversityofPetroleum"anditsheadquarterswaslocatedinBeijing.ItwascomposedoftheUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)andtheUniversityofPetroleum(EastChina).TheUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)resumedenrollmentforthewholecountryin1989.Undergraduate.
In1997,theschoolofficiallyenteredtheranksofthefirstbatchofkeyinstitutionsofhigherlearningunderthenational"211Project".
In2000,theschoolwasplacedunderthedirectjurisdictionoftheMinistryofEducationbyChinaNationalPetroleumCorporation.InJuneofthesameyear,theschoolestablishedagraduateschool.
In2001,fivesecondarydisciplinesincludingmineralsurveyandexploration,oilandgaswellengineering,oilandgasfielddevelopmentengineering,oilandgasstorageandtransportationengineering,andchemicaltechnologywereassessedasnationalkeydisciplines.
In2003,theMinistryofEducationandChinaNationalPetroleumCorporation,ChinaPetrochemicalCorporation,andChinaNationalOffshoreOilCorporationsignedanagreementtojointlybuildaUniversityofPetroleum.
InJanuary2005,theUniversityofPetroleumwasrenamed"ChinaUniversityofPetroleum",andtheUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)wasalsorenamed"ChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)"accordingly.
In2006,theschoolpassedtheevaluationoftheundergraduateteachingleveloftheMinistryofEducationwithexcellentresults;inthesameyear,the"oilandgasresourceexplorationanddevelopmentandtransformationinnovationplatformproject"enteredthe"National985ProjectAdvantageDisciplineInnovationPlatform".
In2007,thedisciplinesof"IndustrialCatalysis"and"EarthExplorationandInformationTechnology"wereapprovedasnationalkey(cultivation)disciplines,withoutstandingadvantagesinthefieldofpetroleumandpetrochemicals.
In2010,itwasratedas"NationalGraduateEmploymentExperienceCollege"bytheMinistryofEducation.JoinedtheShanghaiCooperationOrganizationUniversityinthesameyear.
In2013,hejoinedtheSino-RussianUniversityofEngineeringAlliance.
In2014,theschool’sscientificresearchachievement"Newtechnologyfortheproductionofhigh-qualitycleangasolinebycarbonfouralkylationofcompositeionicliquids"wasselectedasoneofthe"TopTenScientificandTechnologicalAdvancesinChineseCollegesandUniversities".
InMay2014,theMinistryofEducationandChinaNationalPetroleumCorporation,ChinaPetrochemicalCorporation,ChinaNationalOffshoreOilCorporation,ShenhuaGroupCo.,Ltd.,andShaanxiYanchangPetroleum(Group)Co.,Ltd.TheEnergyEnterpriseGroupCorporationsignedanagreementtojointlybuildChinaUniversityofPetroleum[includingChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)andChinaUniversityofPetroleum(EastChina)].
InJanuary2015,theopeningceremonyoftheBeijingInstituteofEngineeringofChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)andtheNationalDemonstrationJointTrainingBasewasheldattheCNPCDrillingEngineeringTechnologyResearchInstitute.InDecember,theopeningceremonyoftheKaramaycampusofChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)washeldinUrumqi.
InSeptember2017,ChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)wasselectedintothelistofworld-classdisciplineconstructionuniversities.Inthesameyear,hejoinedtheSino-RussianComprehensiveUniversityAlliance.
InMarch2018,theschoolwasselectedasthefirstbatchof"NewEngineering"researchandpracticeprojectsbytheMinistryofEducation.InSeptember,theWorldEnergyUniversityAlliancewasinauguratedinChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing).InDecember,theArtificialIntelligenceCollegeofChinaUniversityofPetroleum(Beijing)wasestablished.
InFebruary2019,theschoolbecamethefirstbatchof"BeijingIntellectualPropertyDemonstrationUnits"
OnSeptember30,2020,itbecameamemberofthe"ResourcesandEnvironmentPovertyAlleviationAlliance"ofuniversities.
InSeptember2021,theschoolestablishedtheCarbonNeutralandFutureTechnologyCollege,theCarbonNeutralandDemonstrativeEnergyCollege,andtheDigitalIntelligenceOilandGasModernIndustryCollege.

Theschoolhasestablishedthe"InnovativePlanExperimentalClass"since2007,whichfocusesontrainingprograms,teachingmethods,andpracticalteaching.Aseriesofreformshavebeencarriedoutinsuchareas.Inaddition,theinnovationclasswasusedasapilottocarryoutresearch-basedteachingmethodreformandprojectapproval.Atotalof173projectswereestablishedand113questionswerecompleted.Throughresearch,asetofeffectiveseminar-styleteachingmodelsareinitiallyexplored,includingresearch-basedteachingbyteachers,classroomdiscussion,extracurriculargroupresearch+classroomreportdiscussion,researchassignments,andextracurricularself-studyandotherseminar-styleteachingmethods.Thisteachingmodelhasbeenpromotedinordinaryclasses,and74seminar-stylecoursesareclearlylistedinthe2013editionoftheordinaryclasstrainingplan.Therewere580studentsparticipatingintheinnovationclass,216ofwhomhavegraduated3sessions.Amongthegraduates,about90%ofthegraduateswentabroadtostudyforadegreeandwereadmittedtopostgraduates;57%ofthegraduateswonextracurricularscienceandtechnologyinnovationawardsatorabovetheprovincialorministeriallevel,andtheaward-winningprojectsaccountedfor29%ofthetotalnumberofawardsinthegrade.(2014data)

The"order-based"thattheschoolhasbeenexploringformanyyearssince2011Onthebasisofthetrainingmodel,thetrainingmodelofthe"ExcellentEngineerEducationandTrainingProgram"hasbeenpilotedinfivemajors:geologicalengineering,petroleumengineering,chemicalengineeringandtechnology,mechanicaldesignandmanufacturingandautomation,andprocessequipmentandcontrolengineeringfromthe2010level.The"MeasuresfortheAppointmentandManagementofPart-timeTeachersOutsideSchools"wasformulated,and88part-timeteachersfromenterpriseswerehired.Schoolsandenterprisesjointlyformulateandimplementtrainingprograms,strengthencorporatepractices,andcarryoutacumulativeyearofcorporatecoursesandprofessionalpractices.Amongthe434studentsinvolved,43havegraduated,66peoplehavebeenorganizedtodograduationprojectsinenterprises,and180peoplehavebeeninternshipsinenterprises.(2014data)

Theschoolhassignedallianceswith19universitiesin7countriesTrainingagreement,signedshort-termexchangeprojectagreementswith7collegesanduniversitiesoutsideChina(border),andwasapprovedbytheChinaScholarshipCouncilfor5"Public-SponsoredExcellentUndergraduateExchangeProjects".Atotalof305students,54short-termexchangestudents,and52outstandingundergraduateswerejointlytrainedwithChineseuniversities(overseas).Thejointtrainingmajorbasicallycoversallundergraduatemajorsoftheschool.In2014,74studentswereselectedandsentabroad.
Since1997,theschoolhaspioneeredthefirstinChinatoexplorethetrainingmodelofforeignstudentsfromcountriesthatarejointlytrainedbyschoolsandenterprises(government).Fourmodelshavebeenformed:governmentfundingfromtheChinesegovernment,governmentfundingfromthesourcecountry,fundingfromChineseandforeigncompanies,andself-financed.Thefundingmodelisbasedoncorporatefunding,andthemajorityareforeignstudentsstudyingforabachelor'sdegreeinpetroleumengineering.Atotalof39Chineseoverseasoilcompanies,resourcestateenterprisesandgovernmentdepartmentshavejointlytrained1,103internationalstudentsfrom46resourcecountries.In2014,atotalof95degreestudentsand538studentswereenrolled.(2014data)
