Position Overview

According to the Finnish Constitution, the President of the Finnish Republic is produced by citizens directly voting, and the term is six years.

According to the Finnish New Constitution implemented in March 2000, the President's power was weakened, the power and status of the cabinet and parliament were significantly strengthened. In terms of internal affairs, the President was deprived of most of the power, and the impact on the internal affairs was very limited, and the president only appointed the Government Prime Minister according to the proposal of the parliament. In terms of diplomacy, the President no longer has the power to determine the foreign policy, and the president and the cabinet are jointly responsible for diplomacy.
