Aftergraduatingfromhighschool,ZhangHuawenttothecountrysideandwenttoRaohe’s"May7University"farmandwasselectedastheheadoftheeducatedyouth.DuringmorethanayearofworkinginRaoheFarm,heattendedtheRaoheCountyCongressoftheCommunistYouthLeague,theCountyModelWorkersCongress,andtheAdvancedKnowledgeYouthCongress.
In1977,heenlistedintheairforceoftheShenyangMilitaryRegion.
In1977and1978,thearmyrecommendedZhangHuatotakethecollegeentranceexamination,butwasnotadmitted.
InAugust1979,hewasadmittedtotheAirForceMedicalDepartmentoftheFourthMilitaryMedicalUniversitywithexcellentresults,andjoinedthePartyonAugust25,1979.Mostofthe25examsinthethreeyearsofschoolhavescoresabove80,andthebestmathscoreis97.Heishailedas"agoodsoldierinthemilitarycampandagoodstudentoncampus."

Duringthesummervacationof1980,ZhangHuadrovebacktohishometowninNortheastChina.Apregnantwomanreturnedtothesouthtogivebirthtoachild.Shedidnotexpecttogivebirthprematurelyduringthejourney,soshehadtoreversethecarandreturntotheworkplace.Thelying-inwomanwasweakandstillfarhome.Shewasunaccompanied,andsheshedtearsinanxiousness.ZhangHuasawit,tooktheinitiativetobringwaterandfood,andtookcareofitwithenthusiasm.Aftergettingoutofthecarwiththeparturient,hetooktheparturientandthebabytohisaunt'shouse,andtriedtogetintouchwiththehusbandoftheparturient,beforeheboardedthecarwithconfidenceandwentnorth.

OnJune7,1983,inthe"GovernmentWorkReport"oftheFirstSessionoftheSixthNationalPeople'sCongress,MartyrZhangHuawaspraisedasoneofthetoptenheroesinthecountry.Ontheoccasionofthe60thanniversaryofthefoundingofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain2009,ZhangHuawaselectedasoneofthe"100ChinesePeoplewhohavemovedChinasincethefoundingofthePeople'sRepublicofChina"withhighvotes.
OnSeptember25,2019,ZhangHuawasselectedasthe"MostBeautifulStruggler"personallist.
