Inthe14thyearofGuangxuinQingDynasty(1888),ShiBingzhang,theZhizhouZhizhouinLianzhou,developedtheoriginalHanYufromYangshan,engravingthefourcharacters"YuanFeiYuYue"ontherightofYanxiPavilionOntheWolongStoneontheback,thereisapostscriptinregularscriptwrittenbyHeJian:“HanGong’sbigcharactersarerareintheworld,QianlongRenyin,JianBingDuoyangMountain,gotthefourcharactersintheTurenfamily,forittoleanthestone.”HanYu“Yuanfeiyuyue”"StonecarvingscanbefoundinShihuGardeninWeifang,Shandong,HanwenGongAncestralHallinChaozhou,Guangdong,XiaoxiLakeinHezhou,Guangxi,andSevenStarRocksinZhaoqing,etc.,andhaveawideimpact.

CrossingMaqianMountain

WhenHanYuarrivedinChaozhou,itwasthetimewhenChaozhouwashitbyheavyrains,flooding,andthecountrysidewaswhite.Hewentoutsidethecityandsawtorrentialfloodscomingfromthenorth.Soherodeahorseandwalkedtothenorthofthecity.Hefirstlookedatthewaterandtheterrain.ThenheorderedZhangQianandLiWantofollowhishorse.Bamboopolesareinsertedwherethehorsewalks,asasignoftheembankmentline.HanYuinsertedthelineoftheembankmentandnotifiedthepeopletobuildtheembankmentaccordingtothepolemark.Thepeoplewereveryhappywhentheyheardit,andtheycameoneafteranother.Unexpectedly,assoonastheyarrivedinthenorthofthecity,theysawthatamountainrangehadbeenarchedfromtheplacewherethebamboopoleswereinserted,blockingthefloodfromthenorth.Sincethen,thereisnomorefloodinghere.Thecommonpeoplehavesaid:"HanWenGongcrossedMaqianMountain."Thismountainwaslatercalled"ZhuganMountain."

Expulsionofcrocodile

WhenHanYuwasdemotedtoChaozhouasagovernor,therewasariverinChaozhouatthattime.Thereweremanycrocodilesintheriver,whichbecamealocaldisasterandmanypeoplecrossedtheriver.Theywerealleatenbythem.Oneday,anothercivilianwaskilled.HanYuisworried:Ifthecrocodileisnotremoved,therewillbeendlesstroubles.SoHanYuorderedthepreparationofsacrificesanddecidedtosetupanaltarontheriversidetosacrificethecrocodile.Afterplacingthesacrifice,HanYushoutedtotheriver:"Crocodile!Crocodile!Hancameheretoserveasanofficialinordertobenefitthepeopleofoneparty.Butyouaremakingtroubleshere,andnowyouarelimitedtothreedayswithyourfellowclan.Thetimelimitforgoingouttoseacanbeuptofiveorevensevendays.Ifyoudon’tleaveforsevendays,youmustbeabsolutelystrict.”Sincethen,therehasbeennocrocodilecannibalisminChaozhou.PeoplecalltheplacewhereHanYuworshipsthecrocodile"Hanpu",theferryportiscalled"Handu",thisbigriveriscalled"Hanjiang",andthemountainoppositetheriveriscalled"Hanshan".

DreamTunDanSeal

Whenhewasyoung,HanYuhadadream.TherewasapersonandarollofDansealsinhisdream.HewasforcedtoswallowDansealsbyforce,andtherewasanotherpersonnexttohim.Laughingwhilesqueezinghispalms,hesuddenlyfelthorrified,andthenwokeup.

Afterwakingup,HanYuonlyfeltasifsomethingwaschokinginhisstomach,andhecouldstillrememberoneortwocharacters,hisbrushworkwasextraordinary.Later,whenDeyuansawMengJiao,healwaysfeltfamiliar.Afterthinkingaboutit,hewassurprisedtofindthatMengJiaowastheonewholaughedbesidehiminhisdream.Thisincidentisrecordedin"TheBiographyofOtherPeople",andtherecordin"LongchengLu"isalsomoredetailed.ItissaidthatafterHanYuxing's"writinggestureisnotahumanbook.Later,IknowMengJiao,andIamfamiliarwithit,thinkingaboutit,"Itisthelaughterinthedream".

The"danseal"mentionedinthedreamisthetextofTaoistmantras,oftenwrittenindanshascript,andthestrokesappearinthecloudsealscript.HanYuclearlyopposedBuddhism,buthebelievedinelixir.AsfortheTaoistspells,Iamactuallynotinterested.ForHanYu’sdream,“DanZhuan”canbeunderstoodastwopoints:ThefirstisthenightmareproducedbyHanYu’spursuitofliterature.Hepursuesadistinctivecalligraphywithspecialpenstrokes,sothatpeoplearerepresentedinhisdreams.Thecommon"danseal"isshown;thesecondpossibilityisametaphorforthemeaningof"ancientwriting"advocatedbyHanYuandothers."Danseal"evolvedfromtheancientcharactersofQinandHanDynasties.Awriterandthinker,hisbehaviorandthoughtcanaffectthesituationinhissleep,whichistheso-called"thinkingofdayandnight".

AboutthisdreamiswhatHanYutoldpeopleafterattractingattention,soadditionalelementsarenotruledout.Inthedream,MengJiaoshookhispalmandsmiled,whichshouldberegardedasencouragement,notridicule.ItwasprobablybecauseHanYusubconsciouslywishedtohavesuchafriend,sothatafterseeingMengJiaoandhavingacloserelationshipwithhim,henaturallyconnectedthepersonwho"heldhispalmsandlaughed"inhisdreamwithhisclosefriendMengJiao.

Misrepresentationofappearance

ShenKuooncerecordedin"MengxiBiTan":TheworldpaintedHanYuwithasmallfaceandbeautifulbeard,andheworeagauzehat.ThisisactuallyHanXizaiintheSouthernTangDynasty,andtheportraitofHanXizaipaintedatthattimewaspreservedintheNorthernSongDynasty.Theinscriptionisveryclear.HanXizai'sposthumousposthumoustitleWenjing,JiangnanpeoplecallitHanWengong,sotheworldmistakenlythoughtitwasHanYu.HanYuisfatandhaslittlebeard.Afterthat,HanYusharedwithConfucius,andthepaintingsofConfuciustemplesinallprefecturesandcountieswereallHanXizai.Latergenerationscouldnotdistinguish,sotheyalwaysbelievedthatHanXizai'sportraitwasHanYu.

AccordingtoSongDynastyTaoGu’s"QingYiLu"records,HanYuwasindulgedandhiswivesandconcubineswereingroups,resultinginagreatdeclineinsexualfunction.Heoftentakesaphrodisiacmedicine.Ancientaphrodisiacmedicinescontainsulfurandeatingmoreisharmful.HanYulistenedtootherpeople’ssuggestionsandgrindsthesulfurintotheendtofeedtherooster.Whentheroostergrowsup,heeatschicken.Theroosterabsorbsthetoxicityofsulfurfirst.,Soastoindirectlyobtaintheaphrodisiaceffectofsulfur,butthismethod"seemstobesuccessfulatthebeginning",and"endstodeath".

TheBookofRetirement

AccordingtoLiZhao’s"TangGuoshiSupplement":HanYuonceclimbedHuashanwithhisguests.Afterreachingthetopofthemountain,hefoundthatthesurroundingsweresteepandabnormal.Itisestimatedthatthereisnowaytomove..Inapanicsituation,hewrotehissuicidenoteandcriedmadly.ThemagistrateofHuayinCounty,whereHuashanislocated,triedhisbesttorescuehim.

Later,ZhaoWenbei,ahundred-year-oldmanfromShanxi,traveledtothe"HanTui'sBookOffice".AfterfeelingHanYu'sanecdote,heburstintolaughter.Latergenerationsalsoinscribedontheside"CanglonglingHanTui'scryingpoetZhaoWenbeilaughsatHanChu".LaterintheQingDynasty,LiBaiclimbeduptothispoint.Hecriedandlaughed,andshowedanothermentality.Hewroteapoem:"ThedangerofChinaistheridge.OldHancried,andZhaolaughed.Hecriedandlaughed.LiBaidoesnotlaughorcry,herisesontheindependenthillbutscreams."

韩愈陵园（韩愈墓）位于河南省孟州市城西6公里韩庄村北半岭坡上。此地北望太行，南临黄河，是一片丘陵地带。

墓冢高大，有砖石围墙，翠柏蓊郁，芳草芨芨，枣树成林。墓前有韩愈祠，明代建筑，三进院落，韩愈雕像坐于祠中。始建于公元825年（宝历元年）。墓地处丘陵地带，墓冢高10余米，冢前建有祠堂，计有飨堂三间，门房三间。祠内共有石碑13通，记载有韩愈生平事迹等。墓前院内有古柏两株，相传为唐代栽植，有清乾隆年间孟县知县仇汝瑚碑记：“唐柏双奇”，左株高5丈，围1.2丈；右株高4丈，围1.1丈。

韩愈陵园

1986年11月，韩愈墓公布为河南省文物保护单位。为国家AAA级旅游景区。

韩祠

韩文公祠（即潮州韩愈纪念馆），位于广东潮州市城东笔架山麓，公元819年（元和十四年），韩愈被贬为潮州刺史。韩愈以戴罪之身，在潮七个多月，把中原先进文化带到岭南，办教育，驱鳄鱼，为民众做了许多好事，被潮人奉为神，潮人并将笔架山改称韩山，山下的鳄溪改称韩江。

咸平二年（999年），在通判陈尧佐的倡导下，韩祠建立。祠宇据地高旷，构造古雅，占地328平方米，系双层垂檐建筑。其下层为展览厅，上层辟为“韩愈纪念馆”，阁前石砌平台正中有2米多高的韩愈平身石像1尊。内分前后二进，并带两廊。后进筑在比前进高出几米的台基上，内供韩愈塑像。堂上有对联：“辟佛累千言，雪冷蓝关，从此儒风开岭娇；到官才八月，潮平鳄诸，于今香火遍瀛洲。”祠内有历代碑刻36块，其年代最早者即苏轼的《潮州韩文公庙碑》，从城南移此，置正堂南墙下。祠内前后二进梁柱，还分悬今人为重修韩文公祠所题写的匾额。韩祠倚山临水，肃穆端庄。

1988年，原侍郎亭旧址又新建了“侍郎阁”（因韩愈曾任刑部侍郎）。周围为历代韩祠碑刻和韩愈笔迹。饶有趣味的是“传道起文”的碑刻，因字形特殊，竟有多种读法。庭园有碑廊，保存现代名人评价韩愈的书法碑刻。后山腰为侍郎阁，阁前有韩愈石雕头像，阁内辞为韩愈生平展览馆。

韩文公祠（潮州韩愈纪念馆）

2006年05月25日，韩文公祠被国务院批准列入第六批全国重点文物保护单位名单。
