Transmissiondevice

Inordertotransmitthepowerofthedieselenginetothemovingshaft,itcanmeettherequirementsoflocomotivetraction.Dieselenginetorque-speedcharacteristicsarecompletelydifferentfromlocomotivetraction-speedcharacteristics.Dieselenginescannotbeusedtodirectlydrivelocomotivewheels:dieselengineshaveaminimumspeed,belowwhichtheycannotwork,anddieselenginescannotstartlocomotives.Dieselenginepowerisbasicallyproportionaltothespeed.Proportionally,themaximumpowervaluecanonlybereachedatthemaximumspeed,andtherunningspeedofthelocomotiveoftenchanges,sothatthepowerofthedieselengineisnotfullyutilized;thedieselenginecannotbereversed,andthelocomotivecannotbereversed.Therefore,diesellocomotivesmustbeequippedwithtransmissiondevicestomeetlocomotivetractionrequirements.

Thecommonlyusedtransmissionmethodsincludemechanicaltransmission,hydraulictransmissionandelectrictransmission.
