Original Chengdu East Railway Station

Chengdu East Railway Station is located in Balizhuang. Its predecessor was the freight room and operation room of the original Chengdu Railway Station.

When the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway was opened to traffic in July 1952, the Old Chengdu Station on the east side of the Sima Bridge was used as the intermediate station, and the freight yard was located at the southeast end of the Old Chengdu Station.

The new freight station started in 1956, and it was completed and put into use in October 1958. The station type is a horizontal first-class marshalling station, called a hub station.

On April 1, 1961, the new Chengdu East Station was officially designated as the first-class freight station from the original Chengdu Station (the first-class passenger and freight station at the time).

In 1966, Chengdu East Railway Station was reconstructed and expanded, and has undergone many reconstructions and expansions since then.

On December 28, 2010, the original Chengdu East Railway Station (cargo station) was renamed Bali Railway Station due to the newly built Chengdu East Railway Station (passenger station).

The overall inspiration of Chengdu East Railway Station is from cultural relics unearthed at the Sanxingdui site.
