CERNET

The synonym cernet generally refers to the China Education and Scientific Research Computer Network

Functional Role

The overall goal of CERNET construction is to use advanced and practical computer technology and network communication technology to achieve computer networking and information between campuses Resources are shared and interconnected with the International Academic Computer Network (IN TERNET) to establish a fully functional network management system.

CERNET is an important platform for my country to develop modern distance education. In order to meet the requirements of the distance education project in the National Action Plan for the Promotion of Education in the 21st Century, in 1999, CERNET began to build its own high-speed backbone network. Using the country’s existing optical fiber resources, with the joint investment of the country and the locality, by the end of 2002, CERNET had built a 20,000-km DWDM/SDH high-speed transmission network, covering nearly 200 cities in China, with a total backbone capacity of up to 40Gbps; on this basis , The CERNET high-speed backbone network has been upgraded to 2.5Gbps, and the 155M CERNET medium-high-speed regional network has been connected to 35 key cities in China; more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the country have access to CERNET, of which more than 100 colleges and universities have a campus network of 100~ Access to CERNET at a rate of 1000Mbps.

CERNET is the vanguard of Internet research in my country, with strong technical strength. CERNET is a computer internet network designed, constructed and managed independently by Chinese technical personnel. While building the network, CERNET also pays attention to strengthening network security. In 1999, CERNET established CCERT, the first network emergency response center in China, and provided services. So far, the CCERT team has dealt with reports of more than 2,000 network security incidents, which has effectively ensured the normal network operation order of CERNET and promoted the further improvement of CERNET's network management level.

CERNET is also a test network for China to carry out next-generation Internet research. It relies on existing network facilities and technical strength to establish a nationwide IPV6 test bed. In 1998, CERNET formally participated in the next-generation IP protocol (IPv6) trial network 6BONE, and became a member of its backbone network in November of the same year. CERNET is the first in the country to realize the interconnection with the international next-generation high-speed network INTERNET 2. In China, only CERNET users can directly access INTERNET 2 smoothly.

Node distribution

CERNET provincial-level nodes are located in 38 universities in 36 cities, distributed throughout the country.

CERNET already has 28 international and regional channels connected to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Hong Kong SAR, with a total bandwidth of 10G. There are more than 2,000 universities, primary and middle schools and other educational and scientific research institutions networked with CERNET (including 1,600 colleges and universities), 1.2 million networked hosts, and more than 20 million users.

CERNET has basically the ability to connect to most colleges and universities across the country, and has completed the upgrade and expansion of the backbone network of CERNET's eight major regions, and has built a large-scale Chinese education information search system.

CERNET has built 10 information resource mirroring systems and 12 key disciplines of information resource mirroring systems of major universities and famous international academic organizations in the world with a total capacity of 800GB, as well as a number of well-known academic websites in China .

CERNET has built a full-text retrieval system in Chinese and English with a system capacity of 1.5 million pages and a document retrieval system covering 1 million documents.

At the same time, with the development and application of CERNET, according to the Ministry of Education’s 12th Five-Year Plan, many education websites will be integrated into the overall education cloud platform to upgrade existing CERNET informatization functions, and a new generation of CERNET It will inevitably become the foundation of future education informatization. Through the integration of various functions, through the construction of informatization, the entire CERNET function will be further realized.

Transformation plan

In order to further improve the quality of network operation, improve service quality, and expand service areas, in August 2000, the Party Group of the Ministry of Education approved the transformation plan of CERNET: the establishment of Purcell Network Co., Ltd. , Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the CERNET backbone network, improve network operation quality and service level, and develop network value-added services. At the same time, the original scientific research system of CERNET will remain unchanged, continue to undertake national scientific research projects, and maintain the leading edge of network technology.

Contribution

CERNET is also an important training base for my country's information network talents. Only during the construction of the "Ninth Five-Year" national key scientific and technological public relations project "Computer Information Network and its Application Key Technology Research", CERNET researchers and other cooperative units published hundreds of relevant academic papers at home and abroad, and trained a group of professional and technical personnel .

CERNET also supports and guarantees a number of important national network application projects. For example, the national online enrollment system played a very good role in the enrollment and admission of ordinary colleges and universities in 2000.

The construction of CERNET has strengthened my country's information infrastructure, narrowed the gap with advanced foreign countries in the field of information, and has also played a positive role in the construction of my country's computer information network.
